You’ve done the work, now get the degree.
As a recent veteran, we want to help you enter the workforce at an accelerated pace to meet the increasing demand for electrical and computer engineers. The current nationwide demand for engineers is staggering, especially as we see many engineers entering into retirement. Now is a great time to take advantage of the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering and jump start your career. This program will give you professional opportunities and job stability to last the rest of your non-military career.
In 2010, we were awarded a National Science Foundation grant to help military veterans earn undergraduate degrees. Depending on the level of engineering experience from the service, veterans will be able to earn engineering degrees on an accelerated basis. We want to help veterans get a degree in engineering as quickly as possible, and we’re doing this by developing mathematics review modules, accelerating those with technical expertise and allowing transfer credit options.
Our relationship with the military
K-State has been deemed a Top Military-Friendly University by Military Advanced Education magazine every year since 2007. We’ve also been named to G.I. Jobs magazine’s list of most military friendly schools. Our proximity to Fort Riley has allowed us to work closely with military students for more than 60 years. We have a unique understanding of what it means to be a veteran, and we work to accommodate your needs.
Veteran students' thoughts on K-State Engineering
“The military trains you for the math you need to know, and a large majority of that is not the math used in engineering.”
“My experience in the Navy aids my ability to learn engineering. The stuff they’re teaching, I’ve already seen in operation and dealt with it. I didn’t know how to design it, but that’s what I’m learning now. Having an end goal and knowing how things work has made these classes much easier for me than for the people straight out of high school who are seeing it for the first time.”
“The Defense to Degree program will put you on a fast track to allow you to use your experiences and knowledge from the military to earn your degree faster, and get out in the field to do what you want to do, faster.”

“The engineering faculty really made an effort to get me incorporated and make sure that I was taken care of. It felt like, as a veteran, that they made a considerate effort to make sure that I was integrated into the K-State family from the beginning.”
“I think for the service members who have a technical background, the Defense to Degree program here at K-State is going to offer them the best opportunity to apply their past experience toward their future. I think it’s going to be one of the best programs available to help service members achieve an accelerated degree in a field that’s going to have a very high job placement in the projected future.
“K-State stands heads and shoulders above many other institutions in their commitment to military veterans and supporting them with programs and services to ensure their academic excellence.”
